Humanoids from the Deep (1980)

From the Ocean Depths They Strike ... To Terrorize ... To Mate ... And To Kill!

Humanoids from the Deep
Humanoids from the Deep is like the result of Roger Corman  watching Jaws and thinking, "This is okay but if there were slimy green sea monsters instead of a shark it would be even better.  And if these monsters didn't just kill people but also raped the women, it would be awesome.  I think I have a new movie."

It stars Vic Morrow who sired Jennifer Jason Leigh, played a police sergeant in an episode of "Magnum P.I.," and was decapitated by a helicopter while filming Twilight Zone: The Movie in 1982.  Now that you're in your happy place, let's summarize the film.

An evil fish cannery called Canco was experimenting with a growth hormone called DNA-5 to increase the size of its salmon.  These salmon accidentally escaped into the sea where they were consumed by larger fish, and these fish immediately mutated into half-man, half-fish monsters for some reason.  To advance their evolution they need to breed with human females and I guess they just like to kill human men for the hell of it.  So they all congregate on one fishing town where they do their killing and raping thing until some of the good townsfolk stop them with rifles, and spear-guns, and fire.

Greg's first blue angel attempt went horribly amiss.
Humanoids from the Deep has received a significant amount of criticism for being nothing more than gore and nudity.  Sometimes I think that's a good thing.  It's a monster movie produced by Roger Corman, not Citizen Kane.  Men get torn apart, women get topless and run around, stuff blows up.  That's more than enough to satiate my sophisticated palate. It's just a horror movie and a pretty damn good one, in my less than humble opinion.
